Speaker

I am available as a speaker for events and programs (I can tailor my topic and length to suit your needs).  In addition, I available to conduct retreats, workshops, and seminars.  I am also available most Sundays for pulpit supply.  To contact me about opportunities, click here.

A Listening is a LifeStory Report done with you and a group of your friends.  You can invite some people who know you well to contribute to the information-gathering process.  Much of the analysis is done right then, from the input from you and your friends.  You also receive a written report.

This report is a 360° analysis of the specific features of your life and work (passions, work environment, people, use of time, values, and rewards) that contribute to your own unique sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.  Unlike other personality or preferences assessment, instead of asking you to list your self-identified preferences or what you’d do in a situation, it looks at what you have done and how you’ve done it.  From the stories you tell and the words you use to describe those stories, we can learn a lot about who you actually are, what you do, and how you do it—when you get to choose what you do, when you get to do it your way.  Armed with the insight you gain into yourself from this report you can look for a job that allows the best fit for your unique attributes.

After an approximately hour-long phone interview during which you tell me about the successes and achievements in your life, I do an analysis of what you’ve told me, and, within a week, you receive a written report.  The LifeStory Report details the attributes of what would be a good fit in your choice of work and career.  Understanding how to view yourself in this way, you can then look at a potential job or activity from the perspective of attributes, passions, work environment, and people, instead of looking at job titles or specific industries.  It helps take the guess work out of finding a good fit.

After you have received and viewed the written Report, we will have a feedback session (again, by phone) where we discuss the Report and what you have learned from it.

Please note that I recommend that you take multiple assessments, such as the Myers-Briggs and DISC.  As you start to see consistencies across multiple assessments, you can form an accurate understanding of yourself.

LifeStory Report

What life coaching is and is not
Coaching isn’t counseling.  Counseling tends to focus on inner pain, and spends a lot of time in the past. If you have inner pain, it is an utterly necessary first step in having the whole life you want. A lot of counseling is driven by diagnosis—made by the counselor.  Counselors are licensed and regulated by the government.

Coaching, on the other hand, focuses primarily on the present and future, and is driven primarily by the client—what the client wants to achieve.  When you’ve dealt with many or most of your issues and are ready to make progress in your life goals, coaching is for you.  For now, coaching is not regulated (licensed) by the government.

If you are like many people, you are so accustomed to what you can do, you don’t think of it as anything special. You might not have given much thought to your gifts and talents, you might not be aware of your strengths, or are not clear about your own specific preferences. This Report helps you recognize and name your gifts and strengths, your passions, as well as information about how you work with people, employ time, your optimal work environment, and other useful information.  Knowing this information means you can look for your optimal work situation.

Why get coaching
Life doesn’t come with a manual.  There are all kinds of things that we wish we could do better; things that would go better if we had help figuring them out, if we had someone come alongside of us to guide, encourage, and help us see the truth .  Coaching can be that help.  All athletic teams have coaches, highly trained individuals whose job is to help the team be better at their sport.  Their goal is to win.  The work of a coach is to help you do better at whatever you want to do. The goal of coaching is to get results.

There is a vast array of coaching niches (specialties).  You can find a coach to help you with losing weight and getting fit, do better as an executive leader in a corporation, be a speaker, prepare for retirement, handle your finances, start a new business—nearly anything you might need help with.  Getting coaching only makes sense.  You want to do better at something and coaching can help.  Good coaching can take weeks, months, and even years off of the process of making progress.

Art of Thriving life coaching
My focus as a life coach is on wholeness in your life.  I want you to learn to thrive.  I can help with:

  • The art of thriving in life through learning and applying certain principles and life skills
  • How to figure out your vocation.
  • Spiritual growth (including prayer, journaling, and other spiritual disciplines)
  • Improving relationships (including dealing family-of-origin baggage, cooperative decision making, forming friendships,  as well as pre-marriage preparation)
  • Personal organization and systems (including setting and carrying out goals, prioritizing, organizing space, and even addressing hoarding)
  • Discovering your purpose in life (vocation and calling)
  • Women in transition (pre-marriage, career change, empty nest, menopause)

In addition, I offer a specialized passions and interests assessment called The LifeStory Report that helps you name your motivations, optimal work environment, and other information that will help you fit the right job or volunteer fit. Information can be found at the of of this page.
